Quest details: From the UK. Have a GF in the US. Problem is I'm applying for jobs and not getting any responses. Any hints / tips.
Note: If I was interested in getting in illegally I'd run in from Mexico. I want legal ways only please.

They may have a study/work system that you can use. I know a few people who studied in the US and got work permits after they completed. They were in IT so it may still be possible for you.
You are allowed to work a certain number of hours with your student visa as well.

OK, some info:
I'll be 30 next month, don't have a degree (long story but failed it), afer work in IT basically, coding / supporting. Have 8 years experience which is good.
Anything else that you think is relevent?
I've dug around from the US embassy in London about jobs available, appears only a few jobs that are available.
I want to get a 2 year visa so if things are still going well with the GF I could marry her before visa ends, but would rather do that then marry her to get in the country (call me weird but want to be able to say I want to marry her because I love her, and not because I want to stay in the country!)
