Hi all.
This website could have been designed especially for me; ironicly enough, the whole "quest" thing is pretty close to how I already organize my bookmarks. I bookmark absolutely everything, and have over a hundred folders of links in my favourites menu. I've already managed to find one quest that aligns almost exactly with a folder in my bookmarks (excepting my lack of an ipod). I never really got interested in social bookmarkers like delicious and furl because, while tags are groovey and all, that's not how I think about my links. Also, for various reasons, I find popup windows a major pain to track and deal with so the bookmarklet is extra-cool.
My wife is an avid researcher on all things related to health and nutrition. She always has the hardest time finding answers, and useful information due to the amount of useless information put out by the various companies selling their wares.
She spent hours each day trying different keywords, visiting results and finding very few hits that were useful. Because I worked from home at that time and our computers were in the same room, I got to hear her frustration.
That's when I realized that the current modes of research are severely lacking, and there must be others just like my wife suffering silently.
After our son was born, her online time became even shorter making her more frustrated and cranky with the web. I knew I had to do something...but what?
I thought there must be a way to take advantage of that fact that at any given moment there must be someone looking for the same thing as me online. I wanted to find a way to have people that had same agenda to meet. I imagined someone starting to research something, go to sleep, and wake up to find that others had found stuff.
Three years pass, and I still had found no compelling solution out there that she could use. Around Feb 2005, I decided I wasn't going to wait any longer for someone else to make my idea and started the development.
What went on in the development is a story I'll tell another time.
So here we are today...my dream realized.
Cheers.
